If you are a parent who is concerned about what your children are learning in their K-12 schools, you are the enemy. I hate to break it to you, but you may have already noticed that the hard left has been on a whole campaign designed to make it seem as if loving parents are actually monsters.
You could easily see this when it was reported that the Justice Department colluded with a major teachers’ union to label parents as “domestic terrorists” and portray them as extremists.
The problem with parents is that, unless they happen to be full-fledged far leftists, they are opposed to the idea that a child should belong to the state, not the adults raising them. It is the real reason progressives despised Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act. It is why they slammed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for pushing an amendment to the state’s Constitution that would protect parents’ rights. They are doing the same with Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who recently imposed a similar measure.
But the woke left isn’t only trying to demonize parents in the public square. In some cases, they are actively trying to pit children against the adults raising them. One example is Eau Claire School District in Wisconsin, which is currently being sued by parents being represented by America First Legal.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that it gave a training for teachers in which it instructed them not to tell parents if their children were expressing symptoms of gender dysphoria. “Parents are not entitled to know their kids’ identities,” one of the slides read. Another argued that knowledge of their kids’ gender issues “must be earned” by the parents.
A staffer at a high school in the district put up a poster that read: “If your parents aren’t accepting of your identity, I’m your mom now.”
School districts all across the country are adopting policies allowing teachers, staff, and counselors to help minor children socially, medically, and in some cases, even surgically, go through a transgender transition. They essentially offer “gender-affirming care” without even so much as consulting with the parents. Encouraging a child to live a double life is yet another way they turn them against their parents and lure them into trusting members of the school staff.
It is not an exaggeration to note that in many situations, schools are in a tug-of-war against the parents of the children they seek to indoctrinate. It is not just enough to promote transgender ideology in the classroom – which is already inappropriate enough – but these people are seeking to take the role of the parent in several ways.
This is why it is so important for parents to become aware of what their school districts are teaching. Yes, not all public schools are pushing this extreme ideology in their classrooms – but far too many are. And it is not only happening in blue states.
While some assume that this is a new issue – the opposite is true.
The infusion of progressive ideas into schools has been going on for years. But it wasn’t discovered until the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that those who oppose this nonsense are behind – and we are desperately trying to play catch up.
Fortunately, there has been some progress in this area, with Republican governors helping to pass legislation designed to prevent educational institutions from violating parents’ rights. But it’s going to take more than this. There needs to be more exposure because most people still don’t understand the severity of the issue. When we have more numbers, we can finally make a difference.
